7-7-7, 8-8-8, and lots of hocus-pocus
Last year, the hullabaloo was about the 7th day of July 2007 (code 7-7-7). This year, its the 8th day of August 2008 (code 8-8-8). Not that those numbers mean anything Biblically. But as we all know, the falsehood of our age is so deep that churches, G.O.s and pastors have made something out of these dates.
Last year, churches held special services on 07/07/07 promising hapless and simple minds miracles, breakthroughs and all sorts. This year, today being the 8th day of the 8th month of the year 2008, there is a flurry of activities going on all across the country. Among others, I am aware that members of the Redeemed Chritian Church of God (RCCG) and Mountain of Fire and Miracles Ministries (MFM) hold this day as something special, and are acting to type.
Take the TV advert from MFM which I saw yesterday as an example. It was captioned, “A Night of a New Beginning – 08.08.08 – A highly prophetic hour“.
The advert further enjoined people to come to receive their breakthroughs, miracles – all the usual promises – by coming along with the following items:
- white handkerchief
- bottle of oil
- bottle of water
- a list of * (that number again) things that you want God to do for you
- pictures of yourself and your loved ones
Anyone with a sound understanding of the Bible can see imediately that this is all built on falsehood. It smacks more of fetish than Christianity. And, mark you, MFM is not the only organisation parading such superstitous tomfoolery in broad daylight.
Again, the bottomline is the money factor. Promise the gullible heaven and earth, and they’ll flock in, swallowing the bait, hook, line, and sinker. When the dust is cleared, the lying preachers smile to the bank behind the scenes, while publicly bragging about what the Lawd did at the “crusade”.
Works like a charm. Everytime.
