Pastors cursing and threatening people
Here’s a question submitted by a reader:
Please i found this news piece on the site below. Am amazed at the messages sent by christians, my question is ‘are we allowed as christians to place curses on whoever annoys us’?
A Case of death Threat by Pastor David Ibiyeomie of Salvation Ministries and his Congregation
I do not know if the SaharaReporters’ article is true. But in direct answer to the question, here are the words of our Lord Jesus Christ:
“You have heard that it was said, ‘You shall love your neighbor and hate your enemy.’
But I say to you, Love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you, so that you may be sons of your Father who is in heaven. For he makes his sun rise on the evil and on the good, and sends rain on the just and on the unjust.
For if you love those who love you, what reward do you have? Do not even the tax collectors do the same? And if you greet only your brothers, what more are you doing than others? Do not even the Gentiles do the same? (Matthew 5:43-47)
The idea of pastors cursing, threatening and abusing members of the congregation is so, so foreign to the Gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ that I find it hard to believe that a man who does such is saved in the first place.
It has not been long that I came up with the article on Chris Segun Onayinka, and abuse at The Saints Community, but even as clear as the issues involved are, there are people who have still sought to defend him.
Many a times have I watched a supposed man of God teach on TV his twisted, warped version of “spiritual authority” by which he supposes that he can declare a thing on people and it will come to pass. God must laugh at the foolishness of these men.
As I have said, many of our smiling bishops, general overseers and senior pastors are long-term abusers. The pastoral office used to be a position of trust. It still is, but certain crooked men have blotted that divine office with their wickedness. And they get away with it because they are able to continually twist Scriptures so as to keep their followers in subjection to them.
This is why we must continue to speak out – even in the strongest words possible – teaching sound doctrine, refuting the lies of these charlatans and abusers, and showing them up for who they really are. One thing is certain, sooner or later, all evildoers will get what’s coming to them.
