Half offering is a sin?

I received the following mail yesterday:

Hello Pastor,

I just want to share with you some of the wonders heard from my friend and will be glad if you can please shed more light on this possible give us where this could be in the holy book.

My friend Pastor told them at the night vigil that it is a sin for someone to have €200 in his/her pocket and later put €10/20 down in the offering tray. This got my friend confused and I promised him that you will be of help to us.

Regards,

I am not sure where this pastor got the idea from, but the Bible is clear about what our attitude to giving should be, and here it is:

For if the readiness is there, it is acceptable according to what a person has, not according to what he does not have. (2 Corinthians 8:12)

This is the Bible’s standard for giving by believers: your giving is acceptable according to what you have, whether it is “half”, “quarter” or “full”. Makes no difference. Each person is to determine what he wants to give (not what the pastor wants him to give), and then give it joyfully.

This pastor is nothing more than a crook. No-one needs be confused. No-one should lose any sleep over this pastor’s words. They don’t line up with Scriptures.
