GNU/LinuxOsas,
You touched on a vital point there that people tend to overlook – the fact that the 1st book of Corinthians was written to a congregation in need of severe correction.
The Corinthians had almost everything wrong – church leadership, morals, supernatural manifestations, the Lord’s Supper, marriage, the resurrection – and that letter was corrective (not instructive) in nature.
They were largely motivated by a self-centred attitude to everything – bread and wine meant for common sharing was gobbled up by a few, and they also turned the subject of spiritual manifestations into an opportunity to grandstand and gratify self. It was all selfish. Little wonder that Paul spent so much time lecturing them on love in chapter 13.
If Paul were to write a letter to Pentecostals and Charismatics, he would simply copy and paste 1 Corinthians chapters 12 – 14.

if you think this is strange, then the wise thing to do is to take what is being said now and what you think is right and line it up with scriptures!!
God have mercy on us who sincerely seek You!!!

On point Bro yomi.
I some times wonder why “christians” won’t take the time and pains to study, I often ponder on the amount of time they have for canal things, giving no importance or preference to the study of Gods word. Mind you I’m not talking about studying your church notes or a daily devotional.
Because they have refused to simply study, they see truths like this as new, whereas its what the Apostles laid down for us (Believers) to follow.
The Bible is very clear on its instructions and the conduct of our meetings in scriptures. 1 Corinthians was written to a church in pauls time that was not conducting itself according to the instructions of the Apostles. So in writing, Paul commended them not, but was correcting and instructing them.
The issue of tongues in scriptures is VERY clear. It is as clear as the teaching on righteousness. (To be continued…)
